From 2015 to 2017, the Wittgenstein seminar focused on the concept of 'ordinary', as a central concept of contemporary thought: in the works of Wittgenstein, Austin, and today Stanley Cavell, Veena Das, and Richard Moran; at the crossroads of linguistics, ethics, and anthropology. In 2017-2018, in a partnership with the project GDRI CNRS 'Forms of life', the seminar considered more directly this concept of 'forms of life', in relation to ordinary language and its connection to life. Forms of life are now studied via Wittgenstein's philosophy, Critical Theory, Foucault and his notion of biopolitics, Dewey's pragmatism, anthropology of life. The aim was to bring in the forefront the strength and the plasticity of the concept, and to explore the entanglement of the social and the biological dimensions of the forms of life. In 2018-2019 we would like to focus on the connection between logical forms and forms of life. This can be understood as a way to replace logical forms in forms of life, as Wittgenstein did gradually in his philosophy, but also to assess the role of logical forms and thinking in our form of life – for instance, the place of inquiry in our democratic form of life, according to the pragmatists, or the place of contradiction in your own thinking of forms of life and progress.
